Where can I find safety when what I fear most is in my head?
Where can I find refuge when all around swirl the battles of wills and the wars of motherhood?
No where is there a safe place to cry out, “I wasn’t made for this! What were you thinking?”
When every fiber and thought screams out the opposite of every other mother you see.
When “the years are short” is a promise that has yet to come to fruition.
The people consuming my every waking moment are short. The years? Not so much.
Where can I safely confront these defining thoughts?
With whom can I stare them down? Declaring “You have no power over me!”?
In the shadow of Your wings I find refuge.
You shelter me like a mother.
You teach me how to mother.
It’s OK that I’m a mother.
You made me, and You made me a mother.
In You I have the strength, the courage, the ability to stand, to fight, to love.
My Lord God. My safe haven from myself.
Sometimes I need the most protection from myself.

Sometimes I feel trapped in my own head and the only place I can be free is in Christ. I am thankful that in 2016 the Lord has been rocking my world and one way He has done that is freeing me (mentally) to parent well.
Is there a community where you feel 100% safe? Or is it just one person? Or in God alone? What truths give you comfort when fear threatens to consume?
